What does an Architect/Interior Designer do?

An architect is someone who is specifically trained and licensed to work on the planning, design and review on the construction of buildings. Their task includes the configuration of the interior and exterior spaces of the built environment, designing how spatial relationships within a building are laid out by incorporating function, form, safety and needs of future owners. However, their key responsibilities lie on the exterior or shell of the building.

 

 

Interior Designer

 

Interior designers work within the already established interior spatial platform which does not limit them to just laying out furniture for users’ needs and activities but to also explore and play around with the interior elements within the room in order to achieve the desired look and ambient, whether be it the wall finishing, flooring, ceiling and even lighting. Using their skills to add aesthetic value, incorporating both beauty and functionality into their design, the interior design main responsibility lies within the inside of a building or room.

 

 

The gap between Architecture and Interior Design.

 

In a lot of cases, people have inattentively created a gap between the architecture and interior design. They call in architects to create lovely buildings and spaces, but did not consider how these spaces will be furnished. As a result, this neglection causes many problems when they start making the interior design and fit out work. Coordinating with the interior designers in advance will immensely help save both cost & time.

 

Here in ARCi Design Studio, we offer a combined architecture and interior design services. The reason we believe these roles are connected and inextricably intertwined is rather simple; the exterior design and massing of a building cannot be separated from that of its interior. We believe that, while we might each have specialized knowledge, the best way to work together is to share the design role and work together closely in a symbiotic relationship to bring out the best result from both sides of the design worlds.
